SMCA Welcomes New Head Swim Coach

St. Michael’s is pleased to announce our new Head Swim Coach, Felix Gonzalez. Coach Gonzalez is a native of Puerto Rico who is currently coaching with the Nitros Swim Club. He is a former swimmer and graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, with a B.A. in Sports Science (magna cum laude).
 He began swimming at the age of six, was a member of the National Championship Team, has won more than 50 gold medals, and earned Swimmer of the Year three times. Before working at Nitro Swim Club in Austin, Coach Gonzalez served as the head coach of the San Juan Swim Team, taking the team to a third place finish in the  National Championships in 2013 and 2014.

Coach Gonzalez attributes his strength in working with a broad spectrum of athletes to his extensive international experience. He served as the Assistant Coach at the University of Puerto Rico, coaching under Olympic Swimmer Gretchen Gotay. Coach Gonzalez’s philosophy centers on discipline that guides an athlete's life with regard to family, friends, swimming, and society in general. He brings a wealth of experience and passion to the SMCA swim program. Practice begins on August 31st.
