Students Help Build a Home in the Dominican Republic

Students had a great day working with the people of Cielo and Mission Emanuel. They began laying the foundation for a home for a family in the community. The family they're helping is required to own the land and to work with them in building the home. It was not easy work. They mixed concrete, formed a bucket line, and filled almost half of the foundation. Students work alongside a contracting crew of Haitians that gives a new meaning to the term "work ethic."

After an awesome native lunch prepared by the women of Mission Emanuel of chicken, rice, beans, veggies and fruit, they finished  work at the site and made their way back to the hotel for about two hours of free time (rest is what most of us chose; others "bathed" in the pool).

In the evening they met as a group to discuss their thoughts and observations from the day, and then walked to a local shop for some helado.

Everyone is doing fine and "enjoying" the hard work and environment.
