Joseph Canterbury Accepted to Three Military Summer Programs

It will be a busy summer for Joseph Canterbury ’17. He has been selected to participate in the competitive summer programs offered by three branches of the US military—The United States Military Academy at West Point, the United States Naval Academy, and the United States Air Force Academy—and he plans to attend all three. Many congratulations, Joseph! He was among 1,000 high school juniors selected from more than 5,000 applicants nationwide to participate in the Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) at West Point.
SLE attendees live in the cadet barracks, dine in the Cadet Mess, and participate in academic, leadership, athletic, and military workshops. The one-week seminar is designed to help rising seniors with the college-selection process, while giving them an idea of the importance of leadership and sound decision-making in education, careers, and life in general.

The Naval Academy Summer Seminar Program is a competitive entry program as well and is limited to 2,550 students nationwide. Criteria for acceptance to the Naval Academy program include superior GPA, high college entry exam scores, demonstrated achievement in athletics and extracurricular activities and especially leadership, a positive attitude, self-discipline, and good moral character.

The exclusive Air Force Summer Seminar program seeks out emerging leaders interested in taking the Air Force into the future and looks for demonstrated leadership experience or potential in extracurricular and community activities, athletics, and academics.
