From an early age, Jay knew the field of education was his calling. During high school, Jay was team captain for multiple years, lettering in both football and baseball. After graduating from St. Michael’s, Jay pursued a baseball career at Texas A&M- Kingsville before transferring to St. Edwards University where his love of sports and sports medicine blossomed.
Jay worked for several Austin area athletic teams after college, before becoming the Head Athletic Trainer at St. Michael’s. As Head Athletic Trainer and coach of the softball team, Jay helped our SMCA athletes to win multiple championship.
Ultimately, Jay’s desire to help others led him to a Masters in Social Work and to work with students with learning differences. Always loyal to St. Michael’s, in 2011, Mr. Arellano became the head of St. Michael’s Learning Center and Academic Advising.
In 2008, Jay was awarded Alumnus of the Year for his commitment to our school and his community and while he has moved onto become the new Dean of Students at St. Theresa’s Catholic School, Jay still serves as Vice President of the St. Michael’s Alumni Association’s Governing Board.
Jay married his St. Michael’s high school sweetheart, Mercedes Deleon Arellano, and has two amazing sons, Jackson and Gabriel. Outside of work, you will find Jay at various sporting events with his sons, spending every minute available with his family.
