Hands-On Forensic Anthropology at Texas State

On  Thursday, November 1, the St. Michael's Honors Anatomy and Physiology class had an amazing hands-on educational experience at the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State University. Led by the Skeletal Lab director and a team of Ph.D. and graduate assistants, our class took part in a private workshop where we learned about human osteology, and identifying markers on the human skeleton, ranging from clues for sex determination to indicators of disease processes. This approach allowed for an integration of our classroom learning, provided our class a platform for analyzing a real human skeleton, and introduced our students to the process of creating a biological profile for anthropological forensic casework.  Truly an outstanding experience!
