Hello Class of 2019!
You all have been working incredibly hard on finishing out your applications and we have been impressed with how organized you all have been this year. However, if you are feeling behind we are here to help, so please stop by the College Center!
The University of Texas and Texas A&M deadlines are December 1. Please make sure you have checked your portal to confirm that EVERYTHING is in. If you have any concerns, please come see your college counselor today or tomorrow. And, your scores should have been sent from College Board or ACT.
Please review the following link to confirm you have completed all required steps:
Don't forget that every school has different policies on housing applications. Some schools allow you to apply before you've been admitted (UT) and others require you to wait until you have been accepted. Check with each school to make sure you don't miss the opportunity to get the best housing!
Hopefully those of you who are planning to apply for financial aid have done so at www.fafsa.ed.gov
College Acceptances and Rejections:
‘Tis the Season for college acceptances, rejections and deferrals. It can be a challenging time for students and families. We have included a few articles that may prove useful as we move into this next phase of the college process. And, please let us know when you hear from the schools as we do not get that information from anywhere but YOU!

If you have not yet completed your service hours, Christmas Break is the perfect opportunity to finish your hours. Remember, you must complete your 40 hour project before graduation in order to receive your diploma!
Good luck wrapping up your semester and we can't wait to hear from you when the Early Decision/Early Action decisions come rolling in!
9th & 10th Grade Families,
We hope you had a relaxing and refreshing holiday! Here are some friendly reminders from your college and academic counselors as we get closer to the end of the semester.
Finals are coming up in just 3 weeks! Freshmen will be learning about test taking strategies in this Thursday's final freshman transition seminar. It's never too early to start getting your notes and materials organized to help make the studying process easier and more efficient!
- Your Semester 1 grade in each class will be made up of your Q1 grade (40%), Q2 grade (40%), and your grade on your final exam (20%).
Our next career series will be on Thursday December 6th in the library. We will be hosting Susan Pinzon, an experienced Engineer who will talk about her career and how she came to be in her current field. This is always a great opportunity to learn about a career of interest, or to learn about a career you don't know much about. So join us next week for free pizza with Susan Pinzon!
In case you were wondering, Winter Term schedules should be finalized this week!
This is a great time to be considering summer plans. The College Counseling Office receives lots of information about academic summer programs and can provide information about these to any interested students. Many colleges and universities have summer programs for high school students, in general. Here are a couple to note:
Where There Be Dragons
"Dragons offers small group, custom-crafted travel programs for high school, Gap, and college students in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Our students are led by the best educators in the industry to develop an understanding of critical global issues through immersive travel, meaningful engagement, and empowered student leadership." - (Straight from the Where There Be Dragons brochure)
Stephen F. Austin State University Pre-Law Academy
Texas' only high school pre-law academy where you will learn from the state's top judges and attorneys, explore legal issues, investigate a crime scene, participate in a mock trial, meet law school admissions officers, and more. This program is for incoming high school juniors and seniors (so current sophomores and juniors!). Visit sfasu.edu/Pre-LawAcademy
for more info.
Good luck to everyone as you wrap up the semester! Remember that you are always welcome to stop by the College Counseling Center, even as freshmen!
