Elena is one of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, and she is thrilled to have been selected.
"This is a testament to my hard work throughout high school and I am beyond honored to have qualified as a semifinalist."
A well-rounded student, Elena earned a perfect score on the ACT and is in the National Honor Sociery. She plays soccer and lacrosse, and is also in drumline this year. Elena now has an opportunity to continue in the competition for one of 7,600 National Merit Scholarships and credits many at St. Michael's for attaining this recognition.
"I am grateful for my teachers, advisor, and college counselors who have supported, challenged, and encouraged me throughout my time at St. Michael's," Elena said.
There are approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
