Head of School Dr. Dawn Nichols Christmas Letter

While the lights, poinsettias, and towering Christmas tree in the Upper Commons have been festive, we have again purposely placed our Advent wreath and manger scene in clear view for all who enter. The blessedness of the Advent season - this season of both remembrance and anticipation of Christ’s birth - adds a comforting and welcomed anchor to our work during these busy weeks of December. Preparing for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus is beautifully grounding.

At St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, we often invoke our mission as being both our rudder and our sail – as being a luminous sign of our purpose as a school where our students can grow into better versions of their former selves. This mission – to be a Christ-centered, college preparatory learning community, inspiring lives of service, courage, personal integrity, and intellectual curiosity, is lived out daily in our community: through the talent and devotion of the faculty and staff; the support and spirit of our parents; the reaching toward and giving back of our alumni; the stewardship of the Board of Trustees; and, of course, through the spirit and lively immersion of our students in the life of our precious school. The sum of these constituents is an amazing community – a family of families.

Being a part of this community is quite special. When witnessing our students work hard, find their voice, give back to others, and do the right thing even when no one is looking, one can’t help but feel that the “St. Michael’s way” is truly being lived – that the mission has legs, so to speak.

Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for St. Michael’s. And may your Christmas be merry and bright!
