St. Michael's Parents Step Up (By Laura Duggan, Director of Marketing & Communications)

Amid the uncertainty and anxiety of the COVID-19 vaccination rollout, a particular plea caught the attention of Christy Lewis, St. Michael's current and alumni parent, who gave up her Covid-19 vaccination slot to someone else in greater need - a woman she didn't even know. An article was first published in the Washington Post. Christy's gesture also resulted in an uplifting ABC news segment, which can be viewed here

St. Michael's current and alumni parent John Esparza, Texas Trucking Association (TXTA) President and CEO and Southwest Movers Association (SMA) Executive Director, was able to help coordinate the reach of his affiliate organizations from neighboring states to supply hospital systems in Austin, Houston and Waco with critical water supplies during the recent winter storms. This effort, Water4Austin, was a major nationwide undertaking, involving a relief network that connects companies with communities impacted by disaster.

In a press release, John Esparza is quoted as saying, “Whether keeping the economy moving, delivering daily necessities or providing relief during these catastrophic events, trucks are always rolling, many times stepping away from their own needs to serve others.”
