Service-Learning Opportunity at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (By Rae Harrison, Registrar)

The University of Texas at Austin Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is the Botanic Garden of Texas. The Center promotes its mission to inspire the conservation of native plants through its internationally recognized sustainable gardens, education and outreach programs, research projects, and consulting work. The center relies on its volunteers!

Are you interested in learning more about the native plants of the Texas Hill Country? Garden volunteers work mornings only in our gardens, greenhouses, and other designated areas to assist with planting, weeding, mulching, watering, pruning, and propagation. Arboretum and Natural Areas volunteers work to maintain the Texas Arboretum Wildlife Center and trail systems.

Can you teach others the importance of environmental awareness? Much of what goes on at the Wildflower Center revolves around education. Help develop curriculum for our children’s programs, greet guests to the Little House, assist us in preparing educational materials or supervise learning stations. You may choose to volunteer occasionally when your schedule allows or schedule a placement as often as once a week.

If you can’t commit to an ongoing placement at the Center but want to give your time when they need it most, consider volunteering at one of the festivals or seasonal seminars. Large and small groups are needed to help with every aspect of these events. See the events calendar for dates at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
