A Big Welcome to our Spanish Exchange Students! (by Olivia Glode ’19)
This week, we welcomed 10 exchange students from our sister school, Highlands El Encinar, in Madrid, Spain. On Tuesday night, host Crusader families picked up the excited students from the airport and took them to the County Line to give them their first taste of Texas. They will be attending classes and going on field trips around Austin until Sept. 30, when they return to Spain. On Thursday, they were scheduled to go downtown to Peter Pan mini golf and to Town Lake to kayak and paddleboard.
In a couple of weeks, Mr. Haas will take them to the Texas State Capital and Barton Creek Mall. I asked SMCA Student Body President, Drew Butler, how he feels about having the exchange students here, and he said, “On behalf of the entire SMCA student body, we are so thrilled to have students from Spain, and we look forward to developing relationships with our new Spanish friends.”
