Cristina Spellings '21 & Team 'Destination Imagination' Tournament Winners!
On April 7, 2018, Cristina Spellings ('21) competed at the State level Destination Imagination tournament in Dallas, Texas. Her team of seven students earned first place in the Technical Challenge, Maze Craze, and will be advancing to Global Finals in Knoxville, TN at the end of May, where they will compete against teams from all over the world.
Each year, Destination Imagination works with educators and industry experts to develop seven academic challenges in the fields of STEM, the arts and social entrepreneurship. Students work in teams to research, design, and build a solution to their preferred challenge. Teams present their solutions at the local regional tournament, and if they qualify, at the State level. The top teams at state are invited to participate in Global Finals.
Cristina's team has been working on developing a device that navigated a maze, a prop that transforms in the maze, and a way to remove an object from the maze. Their creative solution integrated the maze into a story about navigating a cyborg's body to remove a virus that was draining his life span. Her team has met several times a week since October to create a solution to their chosen challenge. Well done, Cristina!
