Track & Field State Championship (By Coach Cunningham)

The Crusader Track teams concluded a successful season at the TAPPs State Championships held 5/4-5/518.  Both teams finished 7th overall out of 33 boys’ schools and 34 girls’ schools in the final 5A rankings.

On the girls’ side, Kinga Parrish decisively defended her 800m state championship in winning the 2018 edition by over 20 meters in a time of 2:19.3. Mary Hodapp also took home the bronze medal in the 3200m run in a gritty season best performance of 12:00.6. Freshman Kiele Shultz had a sparkling performance as she set a personal best of 9'0" in the pole vault just missing out on state medalist honors in 4th place.  
Mary Hodapp also doubled back with a 4th place and season best performance in the 1600m run. JT Thompson ran a pair of great races taking 5th in the 100m hurdles and 6th in the 300m hurdles.  Finally, the foursome of Caroline Treadwell, Mary Hodapp, Tara Senn and Kinga Parrish raced to a gutsy 5th place finish in the 4 x 400m relay.

In the boys' meet, the 4 x 200 quartet of Lex Boucvalt, Sebastian Cascarano, Jake Esparza and Justin Mikell sprinted their way to bronze medal with a season best of 1:32.7. Nicholas Villareal teamed with Esparza, Cascarano and Mikell taking 4th place in a hotly contested 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:30.8. Jackson Long took home state bronze in the 3200m run and completed a tough state meet double taking 5th in the 1600m run. Joe Lawler completed his 2018 season with a 1.7 second personal best of 2:03.1 taking 7th in the 800m dash. Nicholas Terracina completed a weather delayed pole vault at nearly 12 o'clock a.m. on Friday night with a tough 7th place finish. Sebastian Cascarano also took 7th in the 200m dash in Saturday's running finals.
