Crusaders Dominate Lanier

On August 31, 2018, the Crusader Football had its first inaugural game on the Austin McMeans Field at Crusader Stadium against Lanier High School. In the first quarter, the Crusaders got on the scoreboard with a 10-yard run by Senior quarterback Sam Saxton and then converted the two point conversion with a pass to Junior Tight End Jack Hagy. After recovering an onside kick, the Crusaders marched into the end zone again with a 10-yard run by Senior running back Sebastian Cascarano and converted the two point conversion again. After a force fumble and fumble recovery by the Crusader defense, Saxton connected with Hagy via the air for a touchdown to make the score 23-0 to end the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Crusaders continued their dominance. Saxton connected with Junior Wide Receiver Lex Boucvalt for two touchdowns, a 50 yard pass and a 57 yard pass. Cascarano returned a punt for a 60-yard touchdown. Sophomore running back Keaton Granger rushed for a 3 -yard touchdown. At halftime, the Crusaders led the Vikings 51-0.

To open the second half, Cascarano returned a kickoff for 92 yards to make the score 58-0. Quarterback Daniel Serna connected with Vaughn Malone for a 1-yard touchdown pass in the 4th quarter to make the score 65-0.

The Crusaders won by a final score of 65-0. Sam Saxton finished 8 for 13 with 237 yards and 3 passing touchdowns and rushed for 72 yards  and a touchdown. Sebastian Cascarano finished with 3 touchdowns. Lex Boucvalt finished with 5 receptions, 220 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Crusader defense gave up a total of 125 yards and forced two turnovers.

The Crusaders will be back in action on Friday, September 7, at Blanco High School. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
