Cross Country Competes in Westlake Invitational

The Crusader Cross Country teams competed in the Austin Westlake Invitational on Friday, August 31. Men's varsity took 11th in the 161 runner 20-team field comprised mostly of UIL 6A competition. Jackson Long led the way with a 5th place medalist finish running the 5K course in a blistering 15:29.
Senior Joe Lawler raced home in 40th place followed by Nathaniel Mahoney in 66th, Alex Garcia in 100th, Lachlan Thomas in 116th, Jackson Laughey in 122nd and Nicholas Terracina in 140th.

The short-handed Lady Crusaders raced to a gutsy 5th place finish in a loaded 18 team field versus central Texas’s top teams. Racing with only 2 of the top 5 scorers from previous weeks, the young crusaders were 1 point behind 6A powerhouse New Braunfels Canyon and outraced the likes of Georgetown, Round Rock McNeil, Vista Ridge, and Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial. Mary Hodapp led the way with an 8th places finish followed by super freshman Camille Terracina in 14th place, freshman Finola Thomas was the third crusader across the line in 42nd, followed closely by fellow freshman Cadence Layne in 50th. Gritty sophomore Gabrielle Bliss rounded out the scoring in 58th place. Freshman Veronica Hodapp also competed finishing in 111th in the 150 runner field.

The Crusaders next race is at Devine High School on September 15.
