The Importance of Drawing in Design (By David Meagher, Social Science & Technology Instructor)
It is an oft-neglected skill, but drawing is essential to good design work. This holds true for architects, product designers and graphic artists! On Friday, students begin drawing practice, using work from some of the best in the field of animation as their inspiration! This practice will pay dividends down the line, as students can depict concepts and ideas long before they turn on Illustrator or Photoshop. Drawing also cements essential hand-eye coordination, a knowledge of scale and form, and promotes creativity - all essential tools in the graphic designer's tool belt!
