Helping St. Theresa's Students Craft the Perfect Paragraph (By Stephanie Stewart, English Department Chair)

Recently, AP English Language and Composition students visited St. Theresa's to help 5th-8th grade students draft some of their first perfect paragraphs of the year. In coordination with Mr. Quentin Moore, St. Theresa's middle school English teacher, students from both schools collaborated in small groups to answer prompts created by Mr. Moore. St. Michael's students spent the day giving friendly advice about best writing practices; it was heartening to see our students realize how helpful they could be to new academic writers. The experience boosted the students' confidence in their own writing and allowed them to reflect on how much they had grown as writers.

The St. Theresa's students were eager to listen to advice from high school students who had already experienced the rigors of academic writing. It was wonderful to see how they recognized what their high school counterparts were saying was exactly what they had been learning in class. Engaging conversation and laughter were staples throughout the day.
