U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week is November 12-18, 2018 (By Neilia Bliss, R.N.)

This is the time of year when the nursing office at St. Michael’s may start to see an increase in student visits for viruses causing things such as runny noses, colds, flu, and bronchitis. Please remember that keeping our school healthy starts with proper hand washing, covering coughs, and staying home when sick.

I thought I would bring Antibiotic Awareness Week into the spotlight as a reminder that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises use of antibiotics only when necessary to further reduce antibiotic resistance, the spread of superbugs, and protect us from side effects from antibiotics. The CDC promotes
Be Antibiotics Aware, an educational initiative to educate the public about when antibiotics are needed, when they are not, how to take antibiotics appropriately, and potential side effects of antibiotics.

Thank you for supporting your students' health and well-being,
