Student Wellness at St. Michael's

At St. Michael’s, students can have the high school experience that will carry them forward - personally, intellectually and spiritually. High school is a time for growth, a time to discover talents and interests, and a time to become a person who is confident and equipped for challenge and opportunity.

In order to ensure those outcomes for students during their years with us, we consciously foster a climate of well-being and life balance. Our Student Wellness division has services and programs in place to reach each and every student. With that in mind, and in anticipation of the new school term, we are enhancing and refining its organization.
Lauren Gavin will serve as Director of Wellness. Currently in her third year at St. Michael’s, having previously served as counselor and student support specialist, Lauren will implement new student wellness programming for the school and parent community, providing direct and indirect services, including counseling, prevention programming, workshops, speaker events and faculty education. Her new location in the modular building will provide a more private space for meeting with students.

Cooper Land is Testing Coordinator and will continue to provide accommodated testing support as before. He will also be the point of contact for applying and scheduling accommodated testing for College Board tests (PSAT, SAT, AP and Subject Tests) and ACT.

Suzanne Lara, a new addition to our staff, is a Student Support Specialist who will provide direct support for students in 9th-12th grades with documented learning accommodations, as well as students who may need additional support or testing. She will be contacting students with documented learning differences in mid-August and creating and reviewing learning profiles.

Suzanne Lara has taught students at all grade levels for 25 years in public schools in South Texas. She is certified in special education and math. She enjoys working with students in high school and seeing them reach their fullest potential.

I, Jonathan Goode and Sasha Spear will continue as usual to provide assistance with course scheduling and drop/add, as well as academic support and comprehensive college counseling support for all students.

Should you have any questions about student support in any area, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
