Freshman Katelyn Peter in National Irish Dance Competition

Katelyn recently traveled to Washington, D.C. for a national Irish dance competition. To get to that performance level, she practices six hours a week. Katelyn, who has been dancing for nine years, studies at the Irish Dance Center of Austin and performs at times two or three shows a month, while competing about once every other month. Despite the many hours of commitment, Katelyn says she loves being involved in Irish dance.

"What I like most about being a dancer is how different it is to anything else. I am also a basketball player and am super involved, but Irish dance is a whole other world. I like how competitive it is, but also the team aspect. Because Irish dance has both solo competitions and team competitions you get to experience both, which is really cool for younger dancers. My other favorite thing is the athleticism of it," Katelyn said.

Congratulations, Katelyn, on your amazing achievement!
