Illness Prevention (By Nurse Neilia Bliss, R.N.)

At St. Michael’s, we take the health and wellness of our community very seriously. The best way to prevent infection obviously is to avoid being exposed to the virus, bacteria or agent causing infection. However, as a reminder, CDC highly recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. These include:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Please encourage your students and family to follow these preventative measures.
If your student has had a diagnosed case of the flu this season, please email me directly at nbliss@smca.com. I would like to monitor the numbers and continue to track positive cases of the flu at SMCA.
