Ready from Day One

While students were away on spring break during the emergence of Covid-19, faculty and staff at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy were preparing to welcome them back to virtual classes on their return. The end result of that early preparation was that students were able to effectively and immediately pivot to a distance learning plan that promoted academic depth, critical thinking, and active learning engagement.
Learning transitioned to this completely new format with creativity, commitment, problem-solving, and ingenuity. Students attend classes Monday through Friday and maintain their regular coursework. The blend of synchronous, distance education that happens in real time (students attending a live-stream Zoom class together), and asynchronous, learning without real-time interaction (students viewing an online science experiment), allows flexibility and independent work, while maintaining a high level of engagement and support for students.
