Virtual Service Opportunities for Caritas of Austin (Compiled by Rae Harrison, Registrar)

A special thank you to everyone who participated in the Archangel Food Drive to support Caritas of Austin! Caritas of Austin is a local organization that believes when every person has a stable place to call home, they can realize their full potential and contribute to our community. The organization builds well-being by making sure people have a safe home, access to healthy groceries, and jobs. Their innovative, personalized and proven approach to ending homelessness creates a more vibrant community for everyone. Volunteers are currently needed to build personal care kits to help individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Personal Hygiene Kit - This project consists of filling plastic bags with personal hygiene items such as shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper,, body wash, razors, and deodorant. These kits are handed out to walk-in clients.
  • COVID-19 Care Kits - These kits help individuals experiencing homelessness protect themselves from exposure to COVID-19. The project consists of filling plastic bags with a cloth mask or bandanna, water bottle, Emergen-C or Vitamin C packets, socks, disposable latex for protection, gloves and a  bar of soap.
  • Homemade Face Mask - People experiencing homelessness are at higher risk during COVID-19 due to a lack of access to showers and medical intervention. Volunteers are needed to make homemade masks out of any tightly woven cloth.  Check the Caritas of Austin website at https://caritasofaustin.org/get-involved/volunteer/ for a link to a video as a reference on how to make a mask.
  • Snack Care Kits - These kits help individuals experiencing homelessness with access to healthy snacks. The project consists of filling plastic bags with granola bars, Slim Jims, dried fruit, nuts, crackers, water bottles, Emergen-C or Vitamin C packets.
