Halloween, Upcoming Holidays and Group Gatherings (By Neilia Bliss, RN)

Please remember to use good judgment as we move toward the Halloween weekend and the upcoming holiday season.  As we see an increase in cases of COVID-19 across Europe and many areas of the United States, it is important to remember that we all have a role in the behaviors that influence the rate of spread of this disease. We know that we are not in a position to control the activities of all of our students, but we ask that families help us fortify the message that parties or gatherings are risky in this pandemic environment.
At this time, the CDC continues to stress that gatherings with more people pose more risk, location matters (outdoors is considered safer), and that everyone should consider their own behavior and the behaviors of individuals around them; Is social distancing in place? Are masks being worn? Do you or others travel outside of your community to areas with higher rates of transmission, etc?
If exposure to COVID-19 does occur, please take the appropriate steps to quarantine so that we can reduce the exposure to others, keep our school doors open, and reduce the potential stress on our hospital systems.  (See important quarantine information attached.) Our goal is to keep the SMCA community and beyond healthy, at work, and in school.
Please see the attached flyer for Austin Public Health recommendations for Halloween.
