Tennis Team Competes at State (By Kevin Steen, Associate Director of Athletics & Head Trainer)

On Tuesday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 7, Stephen Coffman and Sofia Rangel-Medina represented St. Michael's at the TAPPS 5A Tennis State Championship at the Waco Tennis Regional Center.

In the TAPPS 5A Boys Single Bracket, Stephen Coffman won his first-round match in two sets and then faced the number one seed in the quarterfinals, Stephen lost the first set but rallied to win the second set 6-4 to force a 10pt tiebreaker third set, Stephen down 4-0, scoring six points in a row and won the third set 10-7. In the semi-finals, Stephen won 2-0 and then faced a boy from Regents, who he faced last week in the district championship. Stephen lost in two sets but he is the TAPPS 2021 5A Boys Single State Runner-Up. 

In the TAPPS 5A Girls Single Bracket, Sofia Rangel-Medina won her first-round match in two sets and then lost in the quarterfinals against a girl from Frisco Legacy Christian, who was the TAPPS 5A Girls Single State Runner-Up.
