Meet the New Head Cross Country and Volleyball Coaches! (By Caroline Anderson, Athletics Administrative Assistant)

St. Michael's is thrilled to announce the hiring of Head Cross Country Coach David Reisman and Head Volleyball Coach Lauren Erler!

DAVID REISMAN

David Reisman has been coaching youth athletes in cross country and track & field for over 10 years. In 2010, he founded the Austin Speedsters Track & Field Club, where he coaches youth athletes in cross country and a variety of track & field events including distance, middle distance, sprint and field events such as long jump, high jump, discus and shot put. His athletes have competed at the highest levels in local, regional and national events and excel in their high school cross country and track & field programs.

Coach Reisman has most recently concentrated on coaching a limited number of select middle and high school athletes to reach their potential as top-performing runners entering high school, or to improve their performance in high school. He's a member of USA Track & Field and is a certified Level II USA Track & Field coach in endurance running. Coach Reisman is also Safe Sport certified through USA Track & Field.

When not coaching, Reisman serves as Chief Ethics Officer for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, where he has worked since 2015. Reisman is also a veteran, serving from May 2002 to October 2004 as Special Assistant to the General Counsel of the United States Army. In that position, he was responsible for helping manage the Army’s ethics program, as well as advising the General Counsel and Army Secretariat on fiscal and policy issues involving the financial management of the Army.

Reisman has a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College, a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Kentucky, and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law.

The St. Michael's Athletic Department is looking forward to a great season under the leadership of Coach Reisman!

LAUREN ERLER

Lauren Erler played high school volleyball at Bowie High School in Austin all four years, making the varsity team her sophomore through senior years. During her time as a Bulldog, Lauren received UIL Academic All-District honors four years in a row and earned UIL 2nd team All-District her senior year. While in high school, she also began playing club at Austin Junior Volleyball, earning a spot on the top-level Mizuno team her senior year. Through her dedication and effort, Erler earned a four-year scholarship to play at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. She played two seasons at the Division 1 collegiate level before deciding to return to Austin to pursue her passion of coaching while finishing her degree.

Following the untimely passing of her mentor and former coach, she began coaching and working full time with Austin Junior Volleyball in 2014. Coach Erler is deeply passionate about volleyball and her vision is to help young players grow on and off the court, just as her coaches did for her. Erler currently serves as the Assistant Club Director and coordinates the summer programming at Austin Junior Volleyball. To date, she has helped send four club teams to nationals, three of them finishing in the top five, with her 15’s team winning a bronze medal at the USAV Girls Junior National Championship in 2018.

Coach Erler has been happily married for seven years and has two bulldogs named Zoey and Cooper.

Coach Erler will hold a Volleyball program meeting for the parents and athletes next Monday, May 24, at 5 p.m. in the dining hall. Please attend if your student is interested in playing next season!

Welcome to St. Michael's, Coach Erler!
