First Tournament for Varsity Volleyball (By Lauren Erler, Head Volleyball Coach)

Last weekend, Varsity Volleyball played their first games of the season at the LGE Tournament at Leander High School.

The first day, we started with a loss to Round Rock High school in 2 sets, 11-25 and 11-25. Considering this was our first match of the season, the girls hung in there and had some great rallies. In the second match we played Cleburne and won in two games, 25-17 and 27-25. The Crusaders played great! The third match of the day we played Elgin. Our size and physicality alone was tough for Elgin to handle. We won 25-22 and 25-12. Winning 2 out of the 3 matches on day 1 placed us in the top half of the tournament.

We struggled a bit to find our rhythm on day two, losing to Georgetown 15-25 and 23-25, Troy 21-25 and 16-25, and Copperas Cove 17-25 and 13-25. Even though we lost all 3, because we were in the silver bracket, the highest we would be able to finish is 9th, lowest is 16th.

Day 3 we were in the Silver Bracket and it was a double-elimination day. We lost our first game to La Vernia 15-25 and 17-25, won our second game over Salado 25-23, 17-25 and 28-26 and ended the day with a loss to Eastview 15-25 and 16-25.

Overall, the girls played great! They made us proud with how they battled in some of the tighter matches. Every player was able to contribute on the court, and got better throughout the tournament.

Our Freshmen and JV teams play a tournament at Ann Richards School this weekend, and then our first home game is next Tuesday against St. Andrew's! Come out and support!
