Football Wins Big Over Savio (By Head Coach, Jeff Dicus)
St. Michael's Football traveled to Westwood High School last week and defeated St. Dominic Savio 65-8!
OFFENSE
Offense had no turnovers and our defense got 2 fumble recoveries and one interception. Quarterback Carson Cruver '23 went 6/7 with 168 yards and 4 touchdowns. Jack Esparza '22 recorded 2 catches for 71 yards and 2 scores, while also having 2 tackles on the defensive side. Joe Moreland '23 had a reception touchdown, Marcus Vondrak '22 had a rushing touchdown, and running back Nash Baines '23 recorded 8 touches for 66 yards and a score. Marc Pontoja '23 recorded a rushing touchdown and Lincoln Obermeyer '22 caught a touchdown pass as well.
DEFENSE
Defensively, JaHazniah Griffin '23 recorded 4 total tackles with 2 tackles for a loss. Kalen Jaroszewski '23 accounted for a defensive safety, Zander Romero '23 had an interception return for a touchdown and recorded a 90-yard punt return for a touchdown, and kicker Sam Stone '23 went 9/9 on extra points and had 6 touchbacks in the game.
Everyone who suited up got the chance to play, and a lot of them got their first Friday night action, so all was great! We also want to thank Cheer, Crusaderettes, Drumline and all of the parents and volunteers who showed up to support the team! We had a great turnout, and your presence was felt!
