Green Corn Project Service Opportunity (By Rae Harrison, Registrar & Service-Learning Coordinator)

The mission of Green Corn Project (GCP) is to help people with limited access to high-quality, fresh vegetables grow their own organic food. Their vision is to grow fresh food in ways that conserve natural resources, promote self-reliance, and strengthen communities. With the help of community volunteers, GCP installs food gardens for individuals and families and also assists elementary schools, community service centers, and refugee shelters grow food gardens. Volunteers, as well as our garden recipients, receive hands-on education in organic gardening methods. The goal is to provide food, education, and a sense of accomplishment and pride for everyone involved in the creation and maintenance of the gardens.

Volunteering with GCP is a great way to begin or enhance your gardening journey and help others do the same. There is no better way to meet new people than working together in a garden. Join GCP for a Dig-In or a workshop. If you are interested in volunteering and would like to LEARN MORE, please visit their website and contact Rae Harrison at rharrison@smca.com with any questions.
