SMCA Women’s Lacrosse Goes to State!

On Saturday, May 6, the #7 seed St. Michael’s Lady Crusaders faced #2, The Woodlands, in the TGHSLL Division I State Tournament Quarterfinals in Houston, TX.

The Lady Crusaders have lost the last two years to The Woodlands in the State Tournament. In the first half, The Woodlands jumped off to an early 3-0 lead, but the Lady Crusaders responded with 4 goals to take the lead. Woodlands would take the lead again with two goals to make the score 5-4. Junior Gabi Pulsifer and Senior Jeena Turner scored a goal each for the Lady Crusaders to give SMCA the 6-5 advantage heading into half.

In the second half, the Lady Crusaders continued their great offense and defense play and would go on to a 13-10 victory and advance to play Episcopal School of Dallas in the TGHSLL Division I State Tournament Semi-finals. Junior Molly Pitts, Adri Sotelo, Gabi Pulsifer and Hannah Morgan each scored two goals, while Senior Jeena Turner and Sophomore Lyla Senn also scored two goals apiece and Senior Bayli Swett scored a goal. Goalie Melissa Ross had 7 saves.

In the semi-finals match against the ESD Eagles, the Lady Crusaders had a valiant effort but lost 17-7. Jeena Turner and Molly Pitts led the Lady Crusaders in goals, and Goalie Melissa Ross had some terrific saves against a very good offensive attack. This is the furthest the SMCA Lady Crusaders have ever made it in the TGHSLL Division I State Tournament since moving up from Division II three years ago after winning the Division II State Championship. It's been a great season for the Lady Crusaders.
