Faces at St. Michael's: Thunder & Lightning on the Court!

St. Michael’s Catholic Academy juniors Brennan Foreman and Hannah Harrod won their third consecutive TAPPS Women’s Tennis Doubles State Championship.

The dynamic duo has only seen success on the court, never yet losing a high school match. Brennan and Hannah have led St. Michael’s to three consecutive TAPPS State Championships in both 4A and 5A during their three years on campus and have earned First Team All-State and Academic All-State. They have appropriately earned themselves the nickname “Thunder and Lightning” for their outstanding on-court play.
Brennan and Hannah first began playing competitive tennis at the age of 10, when they started at Austin Tennis Academy. They soon became best friends while attending the Austin Tennis Academy College Prep School together in junior high. From there, they decided on St. Michael’s for high school, where they committed to playing doubles under the guidance of head tennis coach Lisa Diedrich.

When asked what makes their team so successful, Harrod said, “Knowing Brennan for the last 8 years and growing up with her on the court and in life, has helped create the bond we have. I trust in her more than anything, especially while I am on the court. So I attribute our success to the connection we have off the court with each other.”

“Each year Brennan and Hannah continue to amaze me with their spectacular tennis game and their competitive edge, but what is most impressive is their kindness towards others, humility, gratitude, academic excellence and team spirit. They embody the true meaning of what it takes to be a champion,” said Coach Diedrich.

And the feeling is mutual. Foreman remarked, “Coach Lisa is an effective coach because she is able to recognize when we are mentally struggling or getting frustrated on the court and has the ability to calm us down. When we become nervous on the court, she gives us confidence. Off the court, Coach Lisa is also like a second mom to us; she is always looking out for us and making sure we make the best decisions. We love her!”

As seniors next year, the duo looks forward to another great year for tennis. “As seniors, both Hannah and I will be leaders of the team, bring even more team spirit, and hopefully finish with another state championship,” said Foreman.
Brennan and Hannah are also members of the National Honor Society which, “serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.” They both plan on pursuing the opportunity to play tennis at the collegiate level.
