Crusader Nation Athletics & Team Spirit (By Angelique Cunningham, Athletic Director)

Greetings Crusader Nation!

It has been a busy, productive, and joyous first several weeks for me as your Athletic Director. I have enjoyed reconnecting with long-time colleagues and meeting the new faces of our wonderful Crusader family.

I am proud to say our 2017-2018 athletic year is off to a roaring start. Coach Sarah Silvernail and her volleyball teams look every bit the part of the defending State Champions. I had a fabulous time at the game as we dominated San Antonio Providence. I also spent some quality time with our beloved Carter Crazies who showed up in full force to support our team. Great school spirit!
Coach Augie Alcala has his defending State Champion men's and women's cross country teams off to a fast start. With multiple returning all-state performers on both teams, great things are expected as we move through the fall season.  Please pray for both teams' travelling grace as they head to national powerhouse Southlake Carroll this weekend for the most competitive meet in the country.

It was with great pride that Coach Ben Ortiz and the Crusader football team hosted the defending State Champions, Grapevine Faith last Friday. It was personally gratifying to see the turn-out from our community in support of our team. On the field we represented ourselves with class and received glowing compliments from the Grapevine coaching staff. Along with their coaches, our visiting fans were grateful to the entire Crusader family regarding the gracious hospitality they received.

As Athletic Director and a Crusader football fan, I look forward with great excitement to this weekend as we get to watch three days of St. Michael's Crusader football! To kick things off, on Thursday night, 2010 alum Mitch Morse will start at center for the Kansas City Chiefs, who play the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots in the NFL season opener. On Friday, we will be traveling to Weimar to watch our Crusader football team in its first road contest of 2017. To top off the weekend, my family and I will be in Waco on Saturday evening to watch 2015 SMCA alum Jameson Houston start for my beloved Baylor Bears. What a great time to be a crusader!

Best of luck to everyone in finishing this short work week. I hope to see many of you all in Weimar on Friday!

Go Crusaders!
