Basketball Victorious in District Opener against St. Dominic Savio

On January 23, the St. Michael's Women's and Men's Basketball team opened district play against St. Dominic Savio at the Carter Athletic Center. 

In the first varsity game of the night, the Lady Crusaders jumped out to a 29-7 start in the first quarter and then continue to coast a 73-19 win against the Lady Eagles. Senior Captain Anna Batchik led the Lady Crusaders with 25 points while freshmen post Alexis Threadgill contributed with 22 points. The Lady Crusaders are now 19-6 on the season and 1-0 in district play.
In the second varsity game of the night, the Crusaders led 16-10 against the Eagles after the first quarter, A big second quarter by the Crusaders was the difference as they outscored the Eagles 13-4 as they went in halftime winning 29-14. St. Dominic Savio tried to mount a comeback in the second half but the Crusaders held on to a 57-47 victory. Senior Matt Everett led the Crusaders with 20 points while junior guard Augie Watkins contributed with 19 points. The Crusaders are now 15-10 on the season and 1-0 in district play. 

The St. Michael's Women's and Men's Basketball team play against district rival Regents at Regents tomorrow. Lady Crusaders tip off at 6:30 with the Crusaders to follow after. Please come out and support the Basketball teams.
