Winter Sports Roundup (By Angelique Cunningham, Athletic Director)

Dear SMCA Athletics Family!

What a winter sports season! As we close out our winter sports season and march toward the spring, I believe I share our entire community's excitement with the successes of our fantastic young men and women on the both the courts and fields.

Heading into the playoff "season" it is fair to say that SMCA flexed its competitive muscle by taking District team championships in women's and men's basketball and in women's soccer. Those three teams went a collective 15-3 in roaring through district play. Our fabulous women's soccer team concluded its fantastic season this week with a hard fought playoff game versus a powerful Fort Worth All Saints. Congratulations, ladies, on representing SMCA in such wonderful fashion!

Our District champion basketball teams are hard at work in preparation for what we all hope is a deep run into the State playoffs. I speak for our entire community in wishing them all the best of luck!

Further congratulations must be extended to our men's soccer team, which was in the playoff hunt until late in the season. These young men played their hearts out day in and day out and acquitted themselves in fine fashion on the field. Well done!

I would be remiss if I did not commend our swim team on its recent performances at the State meet. These young athletes put in an immense amount of work in the dead of winter and represented SMCA in record-setting fashion. Specific congratulations go out to senior star Ted Beiter who broke the State record in the 100m breast stroke and followed that with a new school record in the 100 freestyle.

Let's get fired up for those basketball playoffs and gear up for what is shaping up to be a wonderful spring sports season!

Go Crusaders!
