Cooper Land came to our community from his coaching position at NCAA Division II Rogers State University with a wealth of Texas High School, NCAA Division I and international professional playing experience. Most importantly, Coach Land brings years of youth and collegiate coaching experience to the table coupled with strong Christian faith and work ethic.
Coach Land was the #7 power forward in the State of Texas upon graduation from UIL 6A Flower Mound Marcus High School. Land was an NCAA Division 1 prospect who signed with Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. During his career, Coach Land established himself as arguably the Horizon League’s best shooting big man with a career high 21 points versus University of Milwaukee in 2010. As a senior captain for the Raiders in 2011, Land ranked 5th in Horizon League 3-point field goal percentage averaging almost 10 points and 3 rebounds per game. In 2012 Coach Land led Asker in Norway’s top professional league to the championship finals. Along the way, he averaged 21 points and 9 rebounds per game. After a brief stint with German A-League Kirchheim, Coach Land found a professional home with Australia’s Rockingham Flames. Over a scintillating four-year career from 2013 to 2016, Land averaged 28 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists per game earning League MVP honors in the 2014 and 2016 seasons.
Land began his instructional career in 2009 and has been the director at numerous basketball camps in the United States, Israel, Norway, Germany, Australia and Japan. He played and coached for Athletes in Action in 2011 as he spread the Gospel in professional tournaments in Israel and Palestine.
Between his Australian professional league seasons, Coach Land served as a coach at St. Francis University in Illinois. As associate head coach in 2015-2016, he led the team to a 28-4 record, a conference title, and a #1 NAIA DII national ranking at season’s end. He returned to Texas as an assistant coach at NCAA DII St. Edward's University in 2016-2017 before taking a coaching position at Rogers State University for the 2017-2018 season.
Coach Land’s brother Taylor serves as an assistant basketball coach at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio. His father, Bill Land, works as the play-by-play announcer for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs. Land also serves at the Testing Coordinator at St. Michael’s.
