"Lauren Parra graduated from Skidmore College with a BA in Sociology, Psychology and Dance. Through her dance degree, she received training in dance education, technique, composition and production. At Skidmore, Lauren was fortunate enough to get to work with artists such as, TAKE, Kevin Wynn, Battle Works, Rueben Graciani, Paul Taylor and Batsheva Dance Company. She relocated to Austin, where she grew up, in order to begin her career as a dance educator and performer.
Lauren spends a lot of her time performing in various shows around Austin. You can see her working with NunaMaana, an immersive dance theater company, and with BLiPSWiTCH, a collaborative modern dance company. She enjoys dancing for film as well; recent credits include, "Against Shadows", a dance film addressing issues of race in America, and "Sugar Queen", a music video for the Band of Heathens.
Despite her love for performing, Lauren's true passion is Dance Education. Lauren has experience teaching students of all ages (2-72!) in multiple mediums of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Contemporary, Tap and Ballroom. She's instructed at a variety of studios for their recreational classes and their competition teams. These studios include Ballet Austin, Balance Dance Studios and The Dance Works. She has, also, been involved with after-school dance programs such as Leap of Joy, which brings dance to students in at-risk communities, and MOVE Dace Company, which offers hip hop classes to high school children with special needs. On top of working at St. Michael's, Lauren also runs the dance program at St. Gabriel's. She strives to help her students develop their technique and uncover their inner confidence and leadership abilities."
