About our program

Theater gives students a deeper understanding of the integrated nature of a theatrical event. The study and application of performance, production, history, and theory are braided together to illustrate theater’s rich tradition and collaborative nature. Among the many activities in class, students will have an opportunity to practice improvisation and theater warm-ups, participate in theater games, compose and perform a monologue, create a puppet show, and perform an acting scene.

If students choose to concentrate on drama throughout their high school careers, there are many opportunities available that expand upon concepts and skills learned earlier. Outside of the everyday class, students have several chances a year to create productions for the greater SMCA public, whether as extracurricular activity or as part of the Varsity Drama Team.

In addition to acting, St. Michael’s is pleased to offer opportunities in stagecraft, speech, and debate, with the latter frequently traveling for national competitions.
