Girls Soccer Advances to the TAPPS State Championship Game (By Kevin Steen, Associate Athletics Director & Head Trainer)

On Tuesday, March 2, SMCA Lady Crusaders defeated Regents 2-0 in the TAPPS Division II Girls State Semi-Finals at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex Field #7. With the victory, the Lady Crusaders advance to the TAPPS Division II Girls Soccer State Championship game on Friday, March 5, at 10 a.m. against Faith Christian School of Grapevine at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex Field #1. This is the first time in school history that the SMCA girls soccer program has reached the TAPPS State Championship game

The Lady Crusaders are 15-2 overall and went undefeated in district play. The Lady Crusaders have won four consecutive district championships and reached the state semi-finals in 2018-2019. The Lady Crusaders have scored 90 goals this season and only given up 12 goals. Junior Kennedy Hill has 30 goals and 8 assists on the season. Senior Caroline Brutocao was second-team all-state last year as a junior and has 10 goals and 17 assists this season. Junior Cadence Layne has 8 goals and 18 assists, while Senior Sophia Linn has 10 goals and 6 assists. Two-time second-team all-state Senior Jordan Sommers is the leader of a really good defense, and goalkeeper Skylar Mackey has 9 shutouts on the season.
