Freshman Dedicates 70 Service Hours During Spring Break (By Rae Harrison, Registrar & Service-Learning Coordinator)

There are so many things a 14-year-old young man can do during his spring break. Kudos to Jacob U, who spent over 70 hours volunteering during this spring break.  Jacob helped kids from Austin’s low-income communities to just be kids at Camp Nikos. Through outdoor and indoor play, exercise, bonding, and learning, kids connected with each other, themselves, and the earth. Needless to say, young campers were not the only ones who learned and had fun.  Jacob met new friends and received lessons in communication, patience, empathy, conflict resolution, leadership, and, yes…Jesus!

Go Jacob!  Congratulations for being the youngest camp counselor at Camp Nikos.  We are so proud of you. Camp Nikos summer 2022 here we come.
